At thirteen years old, sitting front row at Madison Square Garden, he watched Prince perform. What stayed with him was not just the music, but the way Prince commanded the stage, moving effortlessly between instruments while holding the audience’s full attention. That idea of versatility became a central theme in the video.

Choosing the Right Environment

Location plays a critical role in storytelling. We chose to film at National Harbor in Maryland, where we found a space that gave us both visual character and flexibility. The presence of a grand piano helped anchor the visual tone and allowed us to create a refined, almost documentary style atmosphere. The environment supported the story without overpowering it. It gave the video a polished feel while still allowing Dave’s personality to come through naturally.

A Lean Production with Purpose

This was not a large scale production, and it did not need to be. The team consisted of three people. Dave, myself, and a production assistant. Even with a small crew, we brought in a full interview lighting setup and captured multiple scenes across different angles and moments. That approach allowed us to stay agile. We were able to focus on performance, conversation, and capturing authentic moments rather than overcomplicating the process.
